Norfolk Celebrates Third Annual National Women’s Health & Fitness Day at the 4 Minute Gym

September 29, 2004 -- Today, an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 women of all ages will participate in local health and fitness events at hundreds of community locations across the country as part of the Third Annual National Women’s Health & Fitness Day. This new event, the first of its kind, will always be held the last Wednesday in September as part of National Women’s Health & Fitness Week celebrations throughout the United States.

Organized as a public/private good health partnership by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC)sm, National Women’s Health & Fitness Day will offer fitness and health events for women at community locations that include hospitals, health clubs, park and recreation departments, health departments, schools, retirement communities, houses of worship, senior centers, and others.

“Our goal for this national event is to encourage women to take control of their health: to learn the facts they need to make smart health choices, and to make time for regular physical activity,” adds Patricia Henze, Executive Director of the Health Information Resource Center, organizer of the event. Henze adds, “Women’s Health & Fitness Day is also designed to showcase the many women’s health resources available through the local organizations that will host events on Wednesday, September 29, 2004.”

The 4 Minute Gym located in Norfolk, Va at 222G West 21st Street is hosting a local celebration open to the public. Patrick Hodges, co-founder, says that “over 60 percent of the current members of the gym are women and will benefit from these activities but we wanted to offer access to the women in the area that aren’t members as well.” The 4 Minute Gym will be offering free health screenings by local nurses, free samples of Life O2 Super-oxygenated water, education and advice on cardiovascular exercise and the positive impact it can have on your health, free trial memberships to help you get started, and more.

The time required for an effective cardio-vascular exercise depends on the degree of oxygen consumption during the workout. The greater the amount of oxygen consumption during the workout, the shorter the required duration of a cardio workout. In other words, the quality of the workout determines the time required. More muscle cells involved means higher oxygen consumption means less time required. The ROM machines used at the 4 Minute Gym enables even totally out of shape people and seniors to achieve much higher oxygen consumption levels than with ANY OTHER FORM OF CONVENTIONAL EXERCISE and therefore they can shorten their exercise periods while getting superior results.
